Buildings & Contents Insurance

Many insurers today offer similar property insurance, it is important however to make sure that you have the correct level of cover to ensure in the event of a claim that you get paid out the full and correct amount.

Many basic policies have a default starting level for contents which is quite low in today’s high tech electronic age. Imagine that you had a fire and you needed to replace everything in your home from carpets to computers to televisions to furniture and everyone’s clothes shoes and all the other nic nac’s  we often forget about! Any idea how much all that would cost to replace!! (Why not use our planner).

Well if your insured for less than the total replacement cost that you have just worked out it is very likely your claim would be reduced significantly by the insurer. Never under estimate to save a few pence as it could cost you massively in the future if you’re unfortunate enough to have a claim, and that also is the same if it was a small claim.

It is also just as vital to ensure that your buildings insurance has the correct level of cover for the same reason’s however this is often easier to establish. If you have recently mortgaged or remortgaged a property, then in most cases you will receive a copy of the survey report and this will give guidance as to the minimum sum you should insure your buildings for, it is usually referred to as reinstatement value or value of buildings cover needed. And of course this is in most cases a condition of the mortgage offer and one which your solicitor/conveyance should check and confirm.

There are many other items that you can cover within or under the umbrella of a contents policy such as:

  • Bicycles
  • Jewellery
  • Camcorders/Camera’s
  • Tools/Work equipment
  • Garden equipment etc
  • Accidental damage
  • Family legal protection
  • 24 hour claim and emergency repair service

It is best to speak with one of our specialist home insurance representative’s to make absolutely certain that all your requirements are met, leaving you with peace of mind that all the correct boxes are ticked. And it is worth remembering the old adage “Cheapest is not necessarily the best”.

It is always advisable that you check the policy terms and conditions of cover and the key facts document. These will always disclose the levels of cover as well as what is and what is not covered within your policy.

If you would like more information you can either fill out our detailed enquiry form or our quick enquiry form, it's up to you, either way a qualified advisor will call you back.
